This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Weather Service (NWS), Office of Observations (OBS), Surface and Upper Air Division (SUAD), and the Logistic Management Branch (LMB) in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Duties
As a Inventory Management Specialist within the National Weather Service (NWS), some of your specific duties will include:
- Provide logistics support and determine quantitative and monetary requirements to maintain needed stock items and adjust to new needs.
- Determine inventory management approach and methodology to achieve optimum supply support based on funding including determining alternate sources, costs, phase-out planning and changes to policy and equipment program.
- Coordinate and participate in planning for inventory management policies, procedures or problem resolution including positioning of stock items, supply support planning, initiating procurement action and provisioning for stock items, repair parts and support equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-12 level: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
- Applying knowledge of supply and logistics management support sufficient to perform equipment audits and determine inventory purchase requirements.
- Recommending inventory management approaches or adjustments to meet evolving needs with policy changes, equipment program changes, or new equipment program needs.
