You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY COUNSELOR in the FLEET AND FAMILY READINESS DEPARTMENT of NVSUPPACTMID SOUTH.
This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by any of the following series: 0101 Clinical Counselor, 0180 Psychology, 0185 Social Work.
Duties
You will determine treatment methods to use based on written guidelines, directives, instructions, professional standards, or procedures.
You will administer case management services (e.g., safety planning, case management, treatment, education services) related to child abuse and spouse abuse.
You will design and implement therapeutic interventions and treatment plans for perpetrators, victims, and family members of spouse abuse or child abuse or neglect.
You will consult with medical, nursing, or ancillary hospital staff on psycho-social issues.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- Position is subject to a CNIC credentials review and privileging requirement.
- Incumbent may be required to participate in delivering services on-board Naval vessels as part of the Return and Reunion program. Must be able to ascend/descend ladders on ships.
Qualifications
This position is a TIER THREE clinical care practitioner with clinical supervisor eligibility. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements as outlined in SECNAVINST 1754.8:
1. Possess at least a masters or doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines:
a. Master's degree from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) or an equivalent degree, OR
b. Master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or an equivalent degree, OR
c. Master's degree in Social Work from a graduate school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) or an equivalent degree, OR
d. Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited university or professional school and a one-year APA accredited clinical internship
2. State or U.S. territory license or certification that provides legal authority to provide clinical services as an independent practitioner in the fields of Licensed Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology.
3. When the state or U.S. territory licensing or certification requirements include a written examination, candidates for privileging, must have achieved a passing score on that examination.
4. Must have engaged in two years, full-time, post-masters supervised clinical experience AND have two years, full-time clinical experience post independent licensure or certification.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilize civilian laws and instructions, policies, and procedures governing Counseling and Advocacy programs; 2) Present sensitive and controversial information to groups of people; 3) Utilize a computer and a variety of software programs to develop multi-media and virtual presentations; and 4) Provide clinical counseling services and child/spouse abuse services. Physical Demands
Work is primarily sedentary in nature. The incumbent's work is performed in a variety of settings, to include normal office settings and classrooms on installations, and in a shipboard or waterfront environment. Attendance at meetings involves either walking or driving to and from various buildings.
Occasional lifting up to 20lbs may be required. Incumbent may be required to conduct business in a shipboard environment as well as a shore-based office. Climbing up and down ladders and other semi strenuous activities, normally found in shipboard environment may be routinely encountered. Incumbent may be required to carry objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds such as, files, books, reference material, etc.
Work Environment
The normal work environment is in an adequately lighted and temperature controlled office setting or conference room.
Education
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess
For the 0101 Social Science Series:
Applicants must have successfully completed a bachelor degree in behavioral or social science
For the 0180 Psychology series:
Applicants must have successfully completed 3 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in clinical psychology, or successfully completed all the requirements for a doctoral degree directly related to clinical psychology in an accredited educational institution.
For the 0185 Social Work series:
Applicants must have successfully completed a degree in social work that fulfills all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In lieu of specialized experience, the following education may be substituted to meet the minimum qualifications requirement:
Applicants may have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
Applicants may have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
