The Incumbent serves as the Education Technician/Simulation Technology Specialist (STS) at the VA Health Care System (OKCVAHCS), Oklahoma city, Oklahoma, in support of the Education/Simulation Program. The incumbent reports directly to the Assistant Chief, and is responsible for supporting education and training activities of Education Department primarily simulation activities throughout the OKCVAHCS to include CBOCs.

Duties

Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Partner with the SimLEARN Innovation Center for Education (SLICE) to administer and implement a Simulation educational program. Support the deployment of a standardized, evidence-based methodology simulation education, training, evaluation, and data collection. Independently develops and delivers developmental classes for educators on specialized education topics to clinical faculty, medical providers, and advanced simulation fellows. These topics include: adult education strategies, effective course design, and assessing educational outcomes. Applies expert knowledge of sound educational design and/or hospital operations to develop and present clinical simulation activities appropriate to the subject matter, learning objectives, environment, and learners at all levels including upper level undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate and professional continuing education for practicing physicians and other clinical staff. Collaborates with faculty and staff as it relates to scheduling, standardizing procedures, demonstrating new technology and providing technical support. Works closely with Medical Media, Biomedical Engineering and IT to maintain and repair equipment and to provide high quality education, training and simulation activities. Maintains documentation and resources by adhering and developing operational policies/standards, produces simulation support materials, generates simulation lab reports, and assists in media development. Advocates for technology throughout facility/community promotion, procurement of equipment, coordinates training and integration of simulation into education courses offered at OKCVAHCS. Manages SIM SharePoint and LEAF site, attends meetings, prepares minutes and creates forms, and follow-up on member assignments. Collect, review, maintain, audit and report education activities. Supports the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) programs, in conjunction with the VA Resuscitation Education Initiative (REdI). Expands role as simulation technology evolves, advancing methodology and performance. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Time-in Grade Requirement: Time in Grade (TIG) for GS-07:Applicants who are current federal employees and have held a GS grade on a permanent basis any time in the past 52 weeks, must also meet time in grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 Level. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal Service. An SF-50 that your shows your Time in Grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Specialized Experience includes but is not limited to Working Knowledge of the purpose and function of the Education Department including; Performs Assignment, Scheduling, Registration and Item Manager tasks; Knowledge of the office automation applications running at OKCVAHCS include: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Understand the principles of adult learning and education; Ability to assemble and troubleshoot equipment used in the delivery of education, training and simulation; Supports daily operations of the Education Department, primarily simulation lab, to include scheduling, orientation of students and faculty, maintaining attendance records and providing technological support; Manages SIM SharePoint and LEAF site, attends meetings, prepares minutes and creates forms, and follow-up on member assignments. Or, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one (1) full year of full-time graduate-level education or superior academic achievement with major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.. (Transcripts must be submitted) Or, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education in excess of One (1) year of full-time education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the one (1) year full-time study requirement. Part time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. NOTE: If using education combined with specialized experience to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience GS-09: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to, Working Knowledge of the purpose and function of the Education Department including; the REdI program and its regulations, the simulation program VA's objectives, policies, procedures and pertinent regulatory requirements affecting the distribution of information, and copyright laws as they relate to software, graphics, text and other web/internet related topics; originality of thought for design, developing and implementing educational programs and possess knowledge in regards to; the principles of simulation, web-based technology, high fidelity simulation equipment, and task trainers; Knowledge of the office automation applications running at OKCVAHCS include: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Understand the principles of adult learning and education; Ability to assemble and troubleshoot equipment used in the delivery of education, training and simulation. Or, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. with major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled that would equip the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the Training Specialist position. The work will require walking and lifting as indicated below: walking-required to become familiar with the OKCVAHCS and training locations; lifting-documents, equipment and transporting such. This may exceed 50 pounds; transport--movement of equipment throughout the Medical Center and to and throughout the CBOCs. Ability to drive a personal vehicle or government car.
