The Clerk position will provide administrative and timekeeping support to the Chief, Deputy Chief, and Administrative Officer, Environmental Management Service (EMS) at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Audie L. Murphy Campus (ALMC) and provide back up support for timekeeping to the Sanitation and Textile Care Sections at the Kerrville Campus (KC).
Duties
Receive and screen telephone calls and refer them to appropriate areas within the service as well as the hospital facility.
Schedule appointments according to openings on the Chief and Assistant Chief's electronic calendar.
Perform timekeeping duties in accordance with established policies.
Type a variety of memorandums and prepare documentation in final form using correct grammar, spelling, and format in connection with timekeeping duties.
Communicate with payroll regarding timekeeping inquiries.
Prepare Request for Personnel Actions.
Maintain orderly and confidential filing system for employees and office correspondence.
Receive, review, analyze and distribute appropriately all incoming mail for the Service.
Maintain service suspense files for time sensitive data.
Use automated computerized system to process purchase orders, bills of collection, and electronic work orders.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/10/2024.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
- General Experience: You must have one (1) year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR,
- Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two (2) years of education above high school. NOTE: This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR,
- Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of successfully completed post-high school education and qualifying experience. NOTE: For GS-3 and GS-4 level positions, determine the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.
