Facilities Management Service is seeking Maintenance Workers to perform various small repairs of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and performs other general carpentry duties at the medical center. This includes installations, assembles, maintenance, repairs, and some fabrications of various systems and equipment. Incumbents will work under the direct supervision of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor.

DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.
Duties:
Install door holders, lock sockets, closures, bumpers, hand rails, hinge, etc.
Operate, maintain, repair and make adjustments to various power activated tools. i.e. skill saws, bench sander, table saw, band.
Fabricate and/or assemble, dissemble shelving, case work and counters.
Repair, install, and replace suspended ceiling grid system and panels.
Layout, install, and maintain vinyl tile, base coving laminated surfaces.
Lay out frame and erect partitions.
Estimate material Cost as well as inspect materials to ensure quality and quantity.
Build displays, modify tables, counters, cabinets and shelving, etc.
Perform electrical work that consists of replacing fixtures, lights, switches, outlets, motors, and Health Care Provider call systems. TV systems, pulling cable, etc. Tools of the trade used are screwdriver, hammer, volt/ohm meter, pliers, wire cutters, insulation, strippers, etc.
Additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be prepared to spend time walking on cement, tile or other hard surfaces. Stoops, bends, and stands in tiring and uncomfortable positions, which require a great deal of stamina and good health. Normally moves at a rapid pace in performing some duties. Frequently lifts, transports, carries or handles heavy items or supplies or equipment. In making physical moves within and without of the warehouse area, lifts, pushes, handles or otherwise controls heavy items. The incumbent must work from ladders, scaffolds, platforms and in areas where dirt, fumes, various gases and other contaminants are present. The individual also required to work on ladders in an overhead position and in small spaces. Individual is subject to Ion& periods of standing, sitting or squatting and must frequently lift, carry and set up material and equipment that weight up to 50 pounds.
