This position serves as a Training Instructor in the Social Work Service (SWS) for the Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) Program and Violence Prevention Program. Providing a broad range of educational services and training to staff throughout the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital (JAHVH). Additionally, the incumbent will demonstrate specialized knowledge and skill in providing assistance with Code Orange response teams.
Duties
Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Provide a broad range of educational services and training skills to staff on regularly scheduled weekly basis.
Perform clerical/technical duties involved with developing, revising, maintaining, recording and/or instructing educational courses.
Perform testing of students to include planning, scheduling and administering selected measures.
Prepare/maintain program records, databases, monitors, and reports.
Review new programs, films, and/or curricula for inclusion in education and training inventory.
Provide assistance with the Code Orange response teams.
Participates in the development and/or revision of course materials and computer based training modules.
Serve as a nationally certified Master Trainer for Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior Program (PMDB) which must be attained upon hire.
Provide the complete scope and knowledge of PMDB and Violence Prevention education to staff of the entire JAHVH facility, CBOC's, and outpatient clinics in regularly scheduled PMDB training courses.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/12/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
The Training Instructor Series, 1712 has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR).
IOR must be met by one of the following.
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.
OR
Specialized Experience: Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).
Supervising or administrative a training program.
Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.
Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.
In addition to the IOR; you must meet the minimum qualifications.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Planning, organizing and setting work priorities; Assists and offers advice on program issues, problems and questions; automated information systems including but not limited to Access Database development and maintenance, SharePoint software, website, Excel spreadsheet applications, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft word processing; Track and manage multiple activities at the same time; Effective written and oral communications in order to establish and maintain effective communications with people both within and outside of the organization. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one (1) full year of graduate level education OR Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A). (Transcripts Required) OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. Physical Requirements: The incumbent must have the ability to complete all 12 hours of PMDB training to have a full understanding of the techniques and methods involved, to actively train staff in all levels of PMDB and to effectively oversee Code Orange responses. This will require physical effort, standing, walking, bending, sitting, and hands on therapeutic containment activity with patients or employees during demonstrations of the techniques. The work has periods of sedentary tasks with desk/computer work followed by highly active involvement in programs and program preparation around the entire station. There are brief periods of active walking, pushing, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling and carrying light to moderately heavy items such as papers/books, as well as training and audiovisual equipment. Use of wheeled carts is required for distant relocation of equipment.
