The position is the principle clerical or administrative support position in the office. The primary purpose of this position is to perform numerous tasks which are dissimilar in kind, but which have in common the purpose of assisting the work of one or more persons in an organization.
Duties
Major Duties:
Receives visitors and incoming calls, resolves problems of both general and specific nature and referring matters to appropriate staff on the basis of knowledge of the various organizational components and individual responsibility.
Responds to requests for information and/or develops one-of-a-kind reports covering organizational or technically oriented matters when information is available in office records and/or files.
Screens incoming correspondence for matters which can be acted on personally and takes necessary action.
Reviews outgoing correspondence for format, policy conformance, and typographical and grammatical accuracy and ensures that all necessary background material is attached as circumstance requires.
Obtains information required by management from various sources within the VA.
Prepares regular and special reports such as but not limited to time/attendance, leave, and degree of use of filing space, etc.
Takes meeting minutes.
Composes letters, endorsements, messages, office instructions, and reports, with responsibility for sentence structure, grammar, and spelling.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM

This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/06/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Receiving visitors and incoming calls and routing them appropriately; Responding to requests for information or assistance; Developing reports; Screening and composing incoming/outgoing correspondence; Collecting, analyzing, editing and presenting data and information; Attending meetings and taking minutes; Composing letters, endorsements, messages, office instructions and reports.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
