The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Flightline Maintenance Shift Supervisor, providing maintenance guidance and direction lo employees on the T6 Flightline.
Duties
- Responsible for day-to-day operation of flightline maintenance.
- Work direction: Directly supervises 1 WL-8 Work Leader, 2 WG-8 Aircraft Workers, and approximately 15 WG-5 to WG-7 Aircraft Attendants assigned in performing flightline maintenance, launch and recovery operations.
- Personnel Administration duties: Maintains accurate position descriptions and performance plans for assigned employees in accordance with established policy, current regulations, and accepted personnel management practices.
- Implements the flight training program and ensures training goals are met and training records are maintained. Develops verbal and written operating instructions, work schedules, quality and quantity standards for the shift.
- Accounts for and maintains control over tools and equipment used during aircraft maintenance.

- IAW DoDI 3020-42 this position has been locally, or command designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity.
- Mission Essential personnel may be required to report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security and public safety.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT ATTENDANT SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Extensive knowledge of general aircraft mechanics, night control, jet engine and flightline requirements. Knowledge of the theory of flight and correlation of associated systems aboard aircraft is required.
2. Knowledge of commonly accepted planning techniques and principles.
3. Skill in the use of special tools, precision testing and measuring equipment. Ability to supervise subordinates, direct, and motivate subordinates. Ability to effectively communicate with other personnel, both orally and writing.
4. Ability to diagnose cause of system or component malfunction.
5. Ability to assess training needs and explain technical procedures.
6. Ability to plan and organize workers, equipment, materials and tools. Ability to analyze work requirements. Knowledge of safety, security and housekeeping requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, and technical orders.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work may be done in adverse weather. Dust, dirt and grease may be present. Liquids such as hydraulic fluid and oil may irritate the skin. There is frequent exposure to possibility of cuts, burns, shocks, strains, and high noise levels. Occasional light to moderate lifting, prolonged sitting, moderate bending, stooping and
climbing into or upon aircraft, walking and standing. Works in a hazardous noise area.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
