The purpose of this position is to maintain fitness and recreation equipment utilized by afloat recreation programs, as well as, plan, organize, advise and administer fitness programs that promote physical development of participants. This position is located in the commander Navy Region Southwest Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Fleet Recration Office.
Duties
Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, diagnoses problems, calibrates, tests, and maintains fitness equipment at the duty location as well as ships while in port.
Establishes and completes a preventative maintenance and fitness equipment repair schedule.
Provides guidance to afloat personnel assigned to ships while in port.
Provides guidance to afloat personnel assigned to ships on preventive maintenance and repairs that need to be conducted while in ship is out of port.
Coordinates higher-level repairs and maintenance with product manufacturers as needed.
Monitors program and equipment changes in the private sector to ensure that state of the art equipment and programs are obtained utilized and provided for participants.
Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of activities and equipment.
Coordinates and instructs fitness equipment repair training classes for shipboard community while in port.
Demonstrates proper use of fitness equipment as required.
Provides budgetary input and maintains in-stock inventory for equipment repair parts in excess of $100,000.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Certification from a nationally recognized agency in the area of exercise science or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
Qualifications
A related bachelor's degree and one year of specialized experience that included the maintenance of related equipment OR four years of experience which includes one year of specialized experience involving maintenance of related equipment.
Knowledge and ability to evaluate troubleshoot, analyze, and pinpoint maintenance problems on fitness equipment and then to perform the maintenance tasks necessary to correct the problem or to maintain the fitness equipment at its full performance level.
Skill in effectively managing the financial and physical resources involved.
Knowledge of the range of activities and services or participant needs and of the methods and processes involved in a typical and conventional basic program that supports the needs of the military personnel assigned to ships.
Knowledge and ability to use computers and job-related software.
Knowledge or policies and procedures regarding procurement, control, and disposition of property.
Ability to prepare and conduct briefings and training sessions.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to provide positive customer service.
Current certification or obtain with six months of appointment in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Must possess valid driver's license and be able to safely operate industrial vehicles including stake bed trucks and forklift.
