This position is located at the Palto Alto Medical Center in Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service. The employee is responsible for evaluating durable medical equipment and all mechanical devices utilized by patients to determine the safety of the devices.
Duties
The employee repairs, maintains, overhauls, and modifies the full range of electrically and mechanically operated durable medical equipment such as power wheelchairs, scooters, electric hospital beds, rollators, wheelchair/van lifts and other non-mechanical devices such as walkers.
The equipment may be new, stored, repaired or returned items. The incumbent determines equipment deficiencies, adjustments needed and the parts necessary to place each item in proper operating condition by operational tests, visual examination, and by use of a variety of measuring devices or electrical test equipment.
The employee disassembles equipment and repairs or replaces wiring, electrical elements, switches, etc.
The employee repairs or replaces electric motors by soldering connections, replacing bearings, etc. The incumbent replaces damaged or faulty framework, timers, regulators, gaskets, and similar controls.
The employee secures parts and supplies from parts room or salvageable equipment; fabricates simple parts such as gaskets, washers.
The employee reassembles equipment, performs applicable tests, makes needed adjustments and accomplishes applicable modifications to assure performance standards are met.
The employee will have certification of education and training on repair, assembly, and the punctuality of above mentioned equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00am - 4:30pm)

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Lifts or handles items 15 -44 pounds. Assignments involve standing, bending, or working from cramped or kneeling positions. Working Conditions: Works in a well-lit, heated, and ventilated shop area, in shelters or at workbench. Exposed to possibility of electric shock, burns, or injury from use of hand and power tools.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
