This position is located within the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, in Palo Alto, CA.
Duties
Major duties include:
Repair, maintain, overhaul, and modifies a full range of electrically and mechanically operated wheelchair systems.
Determine equipment deficiencies, adjustments needed and the parts necessary to place each item in proper operating condition.
Disassemble equipment to repair or replace wiring, electrical elements, switches.
Tests equipment after repair, and new equipment to assure proper functioning.
Perform clerical or technical level work to procure supplies and service;
Procures or manages the procurement of prosthetic devices for patients.
Maintains adequate inventory of parts and supplies to accomplish repairs.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Lifts or handles items 15-44 pounds. Assignments involve standing, bending, or working from cramped or kneeling positions. Works in a well-lit, heated, and ventilated shop area, in shelters or at a workbench. Exposed to possibility of electric shock, burns, or injury from use of hand and power tools.
