This position serves as a Supply Technician at the VA Healthcare System, James A. Lovell FHCC, North Chicago, IL. and is responsible to assure that adequate supplies are on hand to provide prosthetic equipment to patients.
Duties

Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Pulls stock inventory and material for delivery; replenishes stock inventory; interacts with clinical and administrative customers and maintains records on stock levels;
Communicates to the Lead or Supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures;
Provides information to customers regarding medical supplies;
Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates;
Monitors and controls critical supplies;
Performs daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment;
Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock;
Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems;
Delivers supplies in a timely manner and ensures supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition;
Completes specialty cart preparation;
Cleans assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles;
Receives supplies and material into the medical center's catchment area;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm

Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:
Specialized Experience: Possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supply Technician position. Specialized experience includes: providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answering customer questions regarding supplies and materials.

Education Substitution: Successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must be obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Transcripts must be submitted at time of application)

Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: Possess an equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05 grade level, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. (Transcripts must be submitted at time of application)

Physical Requirements: Work involves exertion such as: frequently lifting and carrying light-to-medium weight objects (10 to 30 pounds) and continually walking, bending, stooping and reaching. Upon receipt of inventory incumbent will push loaded carts, store and issue items in crowded quarters while handling some awkward, hard to handle items.
