Duties
Paralegal Specialists consult with state, county, township, and municipal authorities to include taxing authorities, court personnel, and state attorney generals.
Provide paralegal support to assigned attorney(s).
Research, examine, and evaluate laws of various jurisdictions on various topics.
Perform extensive and thorough legal research into a wide variety of statutes, laws, decisions, and military regulations that may be applicable to the legal matter at hand.
May be called upon to analyze the applicability and relevance of findings and prepare a summary of the pertinent points of law involved.
Independently conducts legal research and writes legal reviews on documents/files, as assigned; identifies applicable laws, regulations or other precedent as necessary and drafts responses for signature of the action attorney.
Communicates with defense counsel, prepares case files, sentence guidelines, and courthouse for disposition of federal civilian misdemeanor offenses that occur on the installation in support of Federal District Court.

Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Providing paralegal support to attorneys, 2) Conducts legal research and writes legal reviews, and 3) Reviewing legal forms or records for technical accuracy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher levelgraduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Paralegal Studies, General Law, or Legal Studies, etc.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
