You will serve as an F-35 (F135 and LiftSystem) Propulsion Engineer ) with the F-35 Lightning Support Team in the Fleet Support Team Engineering Division of FLTREADCEN EAST.
This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will oversee development or evaluation of engineering and logistics documents, engineering change proposals, technical directives, inspection/maintenance requirements, repairs and redesign of platform's systems and components.
You will oversee development and management of products and services required to sustain economic operation and ensure airworthiness.
You will investigate, research, and determines applicability of modifications for the program including modifications that would extend service life, improve survivability, reliability and maintainability, and aircraft safety.
You will provide technical oversight of any branch/subordinate level engineers related technical support personnel.
You will determine best approach to resolving complex technical engineering problems.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing experience with aircraft propulsion systems (turbofan, turboshaft, or turbo machinery products) and associated air vehicle systems; 2) Demonstrating effective Senior Engineer leadership, technical conscience, sound judgement, and authority for assigned systems; 3) Communicating effectively, presenting recommendations, and negotiating solutions to disputes; 4) Ensuring communication of significant fleet problems, concerns, issues, or other matters that require further elevation to the appropriate levels; and 5) Overseeing coordination of critical tasks and support for items such as: mishaps, engineering investigations, aircraft sustainment, configuration management, and airworthiness/safety assessments.

Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.
For 08XX series: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
