This position is located at the Tomah VA Medical Center in the Office of the Director in the Performance Improvement Section.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Assists in preparation of justification for personnel actions, timekeeper, and training coordinator. Receives telephone calls and visitor, discretely screening nature of call in order to determine those that should be referred. Utilizes office automation systems for several types of software for various office needs. Schedules appointments and meetings on won initiative reschedules appointments when it becomes apparent that supervisor will not be able to meet. Makes arrangements for conference/meetings and insures appropriate individuals are notified. Proofreads completed work for accuracy in spelling, grammatical construction, punctuation, and checks to assure presence of necessary enclosures. Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers. Maintenance of confidentiality of patient/employee information, electronic and print. The medical center performance improvement program. How to work and function in the medical center in a safe manner, including infection control and the correct operation of equipment. (As required) Age/Population-specific care, as identified in the Age/Population-Specific Competencies, including knowledge of principles of growth and development relevant to the ages/populations served and associated age/population-specific needs and provide the appropriate care based upon the age/population-related factors noted Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday -Friday, 8:00AM -4:3PM Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/09/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Preferred Experience: Strong oral communications skills. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS. Experience in implementation of quality strategies, to include collecting data and monitoring action plans for detail-oriented and work cooperatively as a member of the team. Flexibility is important as the demands of the department can vary greatly and will require a strong ability to prioritize and apply critical-thinking. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience tracking, coordinating, updating, editing, compiling and maintaining files and records; clerical and administrative skills such as grammar, punctuation, spelling, correspondence formats, and records management; skill in using computer applications for functions such as word processing, spread sheets and database management; skill in time management, multi-tasking and organization; and communication and interpersonal relation skills sufficient to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers both verbally and in writing .. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school. Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work places no special physical demands on the employee. The work includes some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items such as paper and books.
