Duties
This position is located under the Office of the Director, in Washington, District of Columbia.
This position serves as a Project Officer (Administration) in the Office of the Director (OD), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Department of Justice (DOJ). Responsible for managing the incoming and outgoing correspondence, other documents, and items requiring signature and/or approval for the OD. They are responsible for advising the OD in the areas of Congressional correspondence, policy and historical documents, speeches, directives management, and data collection support. In addition, they assist the OD with the development and review of various publications, orders, briefs, and memos in support of the OD mission and function.
Typical duties may include:

Ensure proper document formatting.
Participate in meetings and develop relationships with internal stakeholders.
Respond to FOIA requests appropriately.
Ensure confidentiality and discretion of documents.

Ensure all documents are formatted properly in accordance with guidelines.
Coordinate and maintain liaison with internal and external customers.
Ensure confidentiality and discretion with documents and other matters as appropriate.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.
Qualifications
To qualify for a GS-09, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-07; OR a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.) or at least two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field; OR a combination of specialized experience, and related graduate level education, beyond the first full year of graduate level study, that when combined, meet the qualification requirements for this position. (Transcript required if using education or specialized experience and education, to qualify).
GS-09- You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties: Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
Examples of Specialized Experience:
Accomplish projects and tasks with accuracy and in accordance with ATF directorates; AND
Prepare and ensure accuracy of official documents; AND
Develop and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
To qualify for a GS-11, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09; OR successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or at least 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree, (such as an LL.M); OR a combination of specialized experience, and related graduate level education beyond the second full year of graduate level study, that when combined, meet the qualification requirements for this position. (Transcript required if using education or specialized experience and education, to qualify).
GS-11- You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties: Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
Examples of Specialized Experience:
Use discretion and proper non-disclosure of confidential matters and documents; AND
Utilizes proper FOIA procedures and ensures they are followed appropriately; AND
Develop and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
To qualify for a GS-12, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11.
GS-12- You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties: Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
Examples of Specialized Experience:
Review final documents for accuracy and appropriateness and make recommendations for improvement; AND
Prepare and present briefings to senior staff on project progress; AND
Develop and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
To qualify for a GS-13, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12.
GS-13- You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties: Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
Examples of Specialized Experience:
Prepare and/or review final written products with guidance, thoroughness, and consistency; AND
Apply knowledge of archival and record retention requirements to ensure accuracy and thoroughness; AND
Develop and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
