This position is located in the Patient Care Service, at the Tomah, VA Medical Center. Tomah WI is a complexity level 3 facility. The primary purpose of this position is to provide Health Care aid at the Health Care System VISN and facility levels.
Duties

Maintains and organizes supply and equipment rooms.
Keeps storage rooms and clinic rooms clean and orderly.
Assists with inventory management, ordering supplies and removing outdated items if needed.
Collects patient information using standardized screening tools or patient functional outcome measure paperwork prior to the clinician appointment.
Assists with functions (i.e. reception, telephone calls to confirm appointments, sort and file information, etc.) which facilitate patient care and clinic flow.
Listens to all customer feedback and acts to resolve complaints within their control.
Provides education within standard parameters and refers education needs to other appropriate team members.
Assists with patient transfers and provide escort service for patients, as needed, to other areas within the department or in the medical center.
Provides holistic care to Veterans in a manner conducive to their comfort and safety.
Reports and removes safety hazards. Evacuates Veterans during fire and disaster.
Performs routine tasks that assist in the implementation of leisure and diversional activities.
Promotes meaningful use of time that enhances independence, positive self-esteem and relaxing leisure experiences.
Uses standardized processing principles, procedures, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of infection control and demonstrating proper use of chemicals and techniques in order to disinfect treatment areas.
Recognizes the need for, and assist with emergency measures, including CPR.
Documents patient information in the medical record. Safeguards sensitive information.
Provides all linen needs including ordering, folding and stocking.
Establishes and promotes effective interpersonal relationships and communications with inpatients/residents, families and others.
Participates in planning patient care by contributing relevant information about the patient's status and progress.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. ~AND~
To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following:
EXPERIENCE: At least six (6) months of general experience. General experience is (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area the occupation. General experience includes providing assistance in a healthcare or other patient care or personal care environment. ~OR~
EDUCATION: Successful completion of one (1) full year of education above high school level that included study in medical, health, or related fields. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work requires long periods of standing, with minor bending, lifting and pushing. The work may include carrying different sizes and weights of items. The work also requires agility and dexterity to handle papers, books, charts, boxes of copier paper and medical supplies.
