About the Position: Incumbent will serve as the Paralegal Specialist for the Fort Bliss and First Armored Division Special Victims' Counsel (SVC) Program providing assistance to victims of sexual assault who are eligible for representation by an SVC. Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Legal Assistance
Duties
Serves as the initial point of contact for Special Victims Counsel requests and conducts initial intake meetings with client
Gathers required case information and assesses the information and circumstances of offenses.
Employs the training and resources provided by the program to evaluate the legal situation and the needs of the client.
Develops accurate and appropriate documentation regarding specific issues for clients and attorneys.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May be required to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime.
- May require travel, up to 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience :. Specialized experience assisting in interpreting laws, regulations, and/or other guidance; reviewing principles, concepts, and/or methods of legal research and analysis; interviewing potential witnesses and/or other clients; preparing legal papers and conducting summaries of legal analysis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07

Successful completion of at least a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position or an LL.B. or J.D. if related.

Combination of Experience and Education: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 18 hours (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
