You will serve as a HEALTH PHYSICIST in the Naval Dosimetry Center's (NDC's) Physical Medical Department of NAV DOSIMETRY CENTER BETHESDA.
Duties
You will be responsible for policy and instruction of dosimetry processing (shipping, receiving, reading, and reporting) and maintenance (testing, calibration, and inventory).
You will be responsible for the accuracy, quality, and archiving over 1,000 dosimetry reports submitted to command on an annual basis.
You will be responsible to review all signed dosimetry reports prior to submission to command.
You will advise on the proper use of appropriate radiation detection and measurement equipment to define ambient dose equivalent rates and contamination levels.
You will plan work to be accomplished by subordinates.
You will be able to independently operate multiple types of radiation detection and measurement instruments.
Requirements

- This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- In accordance with BUMED INST 6220.9B, this position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations and a signed (Condition of employment) consenting to such.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service o equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Interpreting and advising on safety requirements to recommend improvements for an industrial radiation health program.
Interpreting numerous policies, regulations, and standard operating procedures making changes and advancing policies and procedures.
Using computer software such as: Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), basic programming and utilization of databases.
Working in the areas of radiation dosimetry, the principles of radiation detection and measurements.

Education

Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.

Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
