The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is May through June but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2024.

Duties

-Perform maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of historic stone, concrete, and brick structures that include chimneys, guard-walls, and culverts. -Cut and shape stone and brick using a variety of hand and power tools such as or napping hammers, drills, saws, feather and wedges. -Perform repointing, grouting, and pargeting on historic and modern structures. -Identify and replicate appropriate mortars using sand, cement, lime, and tinting agents to match consistency and color of historic fabric. -Perform maintenance and repairs to masonry structures and features of roads, trails, buildings and backcountry structures. Physical Demands: Incumbent is frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 80 pounds, unassisted. Occasionally with the help of others and/or lifting equipment, incumbent may be required to lift over 100 pounds. Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, operates motorized equipment and uses hand and power tools. Incumbent is required to set up and break down scaffolding and platforms. Is continuously required to stand, stoop, bend, and kneel while working. Incumbent must be able to hike up to 15 miles a day carrying a backpack and work gear while working in the backcountry. Working Conditions: The work is both indoors and outdoors with exposure to abrasive chemicals, dust, grease, and insects. Incumbent is also frequently exposed to possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises; may occasionally be exposed to the possibility broken bones, electrical shock, and burns. Outdoor temperatures may vary from extreme cold to intense heat. Incumbent is required to have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license.
