Spokane VA Medical Center is looking to fill a 2 Lead Medical Support Assistant positions at the main Spokane facility in the Healthcare Administration Service line.

Duties
The Lead MSA is responsible for the coordination of MSA assignments and workflow, especially in an interdisciplinary unit. The Lead MSA is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of MSAs to provide support across interdisciplinary settings. The Lead assists the unit with complex and non-standard procedures, including clinical flow processes related to access to care across multiple clinics, inpatient/outpatient, specialties, and/or community resources.
Ensures coverage of all areas of responsibility
Monitor and make work assignments.
Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization.
Set priorities and delegate tasks in order to meet requirements and deadlines.
Assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload.
Resolve daily workplace issues
Manage staffing requirements
Assure coverage of all areas of responsibility and maintain efficient workflow.
Ensure accurate and timely scheduling of appointments, according to VA Directives, laws, and memorandums
Communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally, in writing, and with staff in order to meet program objectives and obtain the desired effect.
Ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. .
Review and monitor data to ensure all reports are complete and accurate.
Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions and practices.
Orient and provide on the job training for new and current employees.
Provide staff developmental and instructional training (e.g. formal, on-line, face-to-face) as needed.
Ensure all training requirements are met to include mandatory training requirements.
Maintain a current knowledge and answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtain needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that arise.
Conducts ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work
Ensures accurate and timely scheduling of appointments
Provides guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures
Creates and maintains employee work schedules
Orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees
Organizes the work structure of his/her assigned areas
Ensures consults for each section are acted on, scheduled, and completed accurately and timely based on VA Directives, laws, and memorandums.
Ensures outpatient encounter forms are completed accurately and timely in accordance with the Health Care System policy
Work Schedule: Typical tour of duty is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. *Available shifts will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of this announcement closing sate Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j
Specialized Experience must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level (1) collaborating with medical clinicians across multiple disciplines, scheduling interdisciplinary appointments, and possessing an advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community OR (2) providing staff development and training, delegating responsibilities/assigning workload to other staff members, following up on issues, and reviewing and monitoring data to ensure reports are complete and accurate. **Resume must include hours per week for work experience credit.
**Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below:
1. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources.
2. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient care systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting.3. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.
4. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desires effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff.
5. Ability to provide staff development and training.
6. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact if incomplete work across multiple clinics.
