Duties
As a Litigation Support Specialist, you will have responsibility for a wide variety of litigation and operational support functions and will be responsible for providing on-going technical support and consultation to the litigation divisions within the Bureau of Competition, which includes the competition work of headquarters divisions and FTC regional offices in San Francisco, Seattle and New York. Specifically, you will perform the following duties:
Identifies, formulates and implements technology solutions for electronic productions in order to improve overall bureau litigation support. Provides guidance and assistance to case staff in negotiation of production of electronically stored information. Provides assistance to the bureau's Deputy Assistant Director, BC-TIM, with preparation of appropriate taxonomies, indices, thesauri, authority lists, and related research tools; in monitoring the progress of data collection and computer entry efforts.
Evaluates electronically-stored information processes and workflows; and develops new approaches to the management of electronically-stored information to address changes in technology and the types of data formats obtained in litigation.
Develops or evaluates procedures and computer specifications designed to ensure indexing consistency, and to maximize the ease with which documents can be retrieved from tailored data files on the computer or other storage medium.
Recommends acquisition of new software and hardware to better meet the needs of the bureau litigation and investigation.
Works with Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) staff in the resolution of technical issues and implementation of system changes. Works with OCIO staff in developing specifications for upgrades to existing computer systems or selection/development of new systems and other highly sophisticated hardware and software required for litigation support.
Provides specialized training to attorneys and paralegal staff within the bureau on the large variety of litigation specific computer software programs and other technology used throughout the Bureau.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Litigation Support Specialist (Automated Systems) at the GS-11 level, you must meet the following requirements:
Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.M if related
OR
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: working in a legal or office environment providing litigation case support to attorneys, paralegals and staff to manage and maintain files and database systems and answer inquiries; preparing electronic documents; establishing network folders or case files and utilize various databases to support litigation.
To qualify for a Litigation Support Specialist (Automated Systems) at the GS-12 level, you must meet the following requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: utilizing automated litigation support applications such as LAW Pre Discovery, Nuix, and Relativity; experience in ingesting, processing, and loading electronically stored information into litigation databases; and experience in utilizing software applications to execute document productions.
To qualify for a Litigation Support Specialist (Automated Systems) at the GS-13 level, you must meet the following requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: managing automated litigation support applications such as LAW Pre Discovery, Nuix, and Relativity; experience in ingesting, processing, and loading electronically stored information into litigation databases; experience using file manipulation applications and text editing software and tools and experience in utilizing a variety of software applications to execute document productions.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
If you qualify on the basis of education in lieu of experience, you must submit a copy of your transcripts . Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package; however, official transcripts will be required prior to receiving an official offer.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
