This position is located with the BLM Fire & Aviation Directorate, Division of Support Services, Site & Facilities Branch, in the Security Section in Boise, Idaho. Duties

Performs entry control duties at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). Writes visitor passes and maintains visitor log and security log. Conducts vehicle and foot patrol of NIFC, NIFC Aircraft Ramp and the Boise District Office. Responds to emergencies and renders first aid. Investigates and documents suspicious activity and abnormal situations. Writes clear and concise security incident reports to document incidents. Cordons crime scenes, protects evidence, and detains suspects awaiting arrival of proper authorities. Monitors access to restricted areas and equipment such as the aircraft ramp and parked aircraft. Operates and monitors Closed Circuit Television Surveillance systems. Operates motor vehicles in all lighting conditions. A valid state driver’s license is required. Uses personal computer and various software programs for normal business operations. Provides assistance and direction to employees and visitors as needed. Monitors alarms and dispatches patrol to alarms. Performs security checks during non-duty hours.

  • This is a 24/7 operation and the applicant must be available to work the day, swing, or midnight shift
  • Must possess a valid state driver license for duration of appointment to operate government owned vehicles IAW 5 CFR 930.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the minimum qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. For GS-05: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Examples of work experience include, but are not limited to; Performing entry control and vehicle/foot patrol for a large campus or institution, for example a military base or large industrial complex; monitoring alarms and closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system, and writing clear and concise security logs and security incident reports. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no education/training substitution at the GS-05 for the 0085 series. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level. Physical Demands: Routine work includes a moderate degree of physical discomfort (walking, running, climbing ladders and stairs, and stooping). Incumbent is required to stand for long periods of time on hard surfaces or concrete. The incumbent may be required to use force to defend against physical attack. The duties of this positions requires moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. Physical exam must be satisfactorily passed to ensure good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. Work Environment: Shiftwork is performed indoor and outdoor, in daylight and in the dark of night, and in adverse weather conditions seven days a week around the clock. The incumbent may be subjected to potential hazards (motorized vehicles, slippery surfaces, dust, smoke, noxious fumes, bright lights) and bodily harm/injury from persons intending harm. THIS IS A DRUG TESTING DESIGNATED POSITION in accordance with Executive Order 12564, and under the Department's Drug Free Workplace Program. Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and to pass the test prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
