This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services at an inpatient Navajo Area IHS Health Care facility. The inpatient facility provides services in General Medicine, Surgery. Obstetrics (Labor/Delivery/Post-Partum, Newborn Nursery) Newborn, Pediatrics, Intensive Care. Post Anesthesia Recovery, Operating Room, Ambulatory Surgery and Peri-operative Services rnay also include the Emergency Room. and Special Care Units. The Incumbent reports to the Chief Nurse Executive.

Duties

The incumbent: Functions as the Supervisory Nurse with 24-hour responsibility for Nursing services and nursing care on the Inpatient Unit. Plans the work for the unit including completion of work schedules, adjusting work schedules as needed to meet the staffing and patient care needs. Provides supervision to subordinate employees, including counseling, disciplinary action, corrective action, evaluation, and overall management of each unit employee. Monitors. evaluates, and corrects employee performance. Establishes, writes, and develops an employee evaluation process and takes corrective action when required to assure safe quality patient care. Performs the full range of patient care duties and assesses medical legal implication for performing practice and activities related to age-appropriate care. Closely observes patients for conditions that may require emergency measures; recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious clinical situations, initiates and provides appropriate immediate/emergency measures. Participates with the hospital Performance Improvement Coordinator to assure compliance with TJC/CMS standards. Evidence-based and best practices are assured. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery: Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Examples of experience: Provide comprehensive professional nursing services and to perform the full range of administrative and managerial duties, supervising and directing the nursing care and nursing services in the realm of Patient Centered Care in collaboration with medical providers and other health care disciplines with the focus on quality patient care with a multidisciplinary approach. SUPERVISORY OR MANAGERIAL COMPETENCIES: Candidates should possess proficiency or the potential to develop proficiency in these competencies prior to entry into a supervisory position. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
