About the Position: This position is located in Patient Administration at Army Medical Center Womack, Fort Liberty, NC. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Duties

Provide guidance for coding Classification of Diseases, Current Procedural Terminology, Procedure Coding System and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System. Participate on hospital committees that address medical records coding, quality assurance, and Data Quality. Interface with coding staff, MRA, administrators, physicians, medical records personnel, third party auditors utilization review/quality assurance coordinators regarding trends/analysis. Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates to include establishment of priorities and preparation of schedules for completion of work and negation of backlogs. Provide training and feedback regarding coding and documentation. Analyze effectiveness of the outpatient/inpatient coding program and implement changes as needed in accordance with the Medical Treatment Facility’s Coding Compliance Plan and higher headquarters guidance. Oversee coding functions for Military Treatment Facilities and or Hospital. Utilize graphs, spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software to gather, develop and deliver coding statistics to the clinical services.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Health Information Management or Health Care Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. This position recommends that you be certified as a RHIA, RHIT, CCS , CCS-P, CCA, CPC, CPC-H. within 90 days of occupying the position. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementAttention to DetailLeadershipQuality Assurance Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
