This position is located within the VA Northern California Health Care System, Nursing and Patient Care Service, performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties.
Duty location is Mather, California.
Duties

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-08. At the GS-07 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-08. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Makes extensive travel arrangements
Makes complete arrangements for large conferences
Composes complex but non-technical correspondence
Researches and provides all background information and data, locates and assembles information for various reports, briefings, conferences, etc.
Designs and organizes filing
Tracks internal correspondence, files, and reports
Provides guidance to administrative personnel and plans/coordinates the work of the office, distributes work, ensures the acceptability of both quantity and quality of work performed
Maintains subject matter files and records, setting up and maintaining logs showing the status of actions and correspondence
Receives visitors and telephone calls to the office determining the nature of requests and directing callers to appropriate staff
Responds to routine and non-technical requests for information such as status of reports, suspense dates for matters requiring compliance, etc.
Schedules appointments
Uses a computer, types/records narrative, and tabular material
Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. ~AND~
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following specialized experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-6) in Federal Service, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties and that is typically in or related to the work of this position? Qualifying specialized experience includes performing administrative support functions such as tracking data and suspense items; scheduling appointments; coordinating meetings and conferences; making travel arrangements; preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication; utilizing office automation software and maintaining files; and receiving visitors and telephone calls to the office. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position, start and ending dates (month and year) of employment, and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
