This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

At this level has varying assignments including special and complex imaging procedures beyond the full performance level, clinical instruction and basic Quality Management type duties within the program. Directs the work performance of subordinates and reports concerns to the CT Lead/Supervisor. Provides back-up support in absence of the CT Lead Technologist and Supervisor. Has well-developed time management and organizational skills. Suggests changes in procedures, policies, and offers quality improvement feedback, as well as coordinates training and development of the Imaging Technologists. Acts as preceptor and mentor for subordinate staff and students. Participates in Protocol Optimization Committee and collaborates with stakeholders on new protocols and ensures all CT technologists are aware of any changes, or additions of new protocols. Champions Safe Patient Handling and Mobility initiatives and guidelines. Makes impromptu decisions on work problems presented by facility supervisors, administrators, facility team leaders, and discusses their ideas with the CT Lead/Supervisor. The ADRT - CT Technologist assist with Manufacturer Representatives and Biomedical Engineering staff in the calibration and troubleshooting of malfunctions of the CT equipment as well as scheduling for maintenance and reporting equipment downtime. Collaborates with the CT Lead to oversee the quality control procedures for all CT scanners and ensures QA is being completed and recorded at the required times,. Assists and provides direction with special projects and other administrative duties as assigned. Performs irregular hour emergency scans on standby, 24 hours per day and call coverage. Call coverage requires 30-minute availability from receipt of call for effective emergency care. Participates in the rotational on-call CT, 24 hours per day and 7 days per week. Ensures that necessary medical supplies and radiopharmaceutical supplies are on hand for daily operational needs. Resolves informal employee complaints at lowest level possible. Proactively identifies administrative, clinical, or mechanical problems. Properly and promptly enter required templates/notes EMR (Computerized Patient Record System), such as templates used for screening for pregnancy status, contrast allergies, metformin, and hydration instructions. In-depth knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques employment of dose reduction strategies and team collaboration with dose monitoring. Experienced in basic physics including concepts of energy, electric power, conductivity, magnetic fields, and properties of Xray, to understand the operation of associated equipment. Utilizes advanced imaging software with dynamic and postprocessing software that supports the complete imaging programs, recognizes changes in equipment and procedures that can result in increased exposures, and exercises prudent judgment on methods to prevent such exposures. Competently demonstrates the ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations. Hyper cognizance of changes in patient's appearance, signs, and symptoms of distress. ADRT/Clinical Instructor will serve on hospital committees and participate in various leadership enhancing coursework. Sets up and maintains sterile field for interventional procedures such as biopsies, ablations, aspirations, and drain placements. Will define clinical objectives and give orientation to incoming students. Instructs students on all imaging equipment used in CT, Safe Patient Handling & Mobility equipment and safety resources used throughout the facility. CT procedures performed by students will be performed under direct supervision until a student achieved a level of competency determined to work with indirect supervision, and any time a student is repeating an exam for unsatisfactory images/procedure. Communicates the regulatory and local policies, workflow and safety practices associated with performing Computed Tomography, injecting radiopharmaceuticals into patients, and performing as an unlicensed assistive personnel within the scope of a Computed Tomography Technologist. Evaluates and critiques radiographs/exams done by students, explains exposure techniques and radiation safety. Provides training, feedback, and guidance to students and employees on clinical matters. Sets, evaluates and adjusts both short term and long-term teaching priorities. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Rotating On-Call, Evenings, Nights, and Weekends. Compressed/Flexible:May be authorized. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT} (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.] Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT} or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).] Grade Determinations: Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-10 Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Knowledge Skills, and Abilities (KSA's). Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques, including concepts of accumulated dosage, dose monitoring, and genetic changes. Ability to utilize advanced imaging software that supports complex imaging programs and recognize changes in equipment and procedures that might result in increased exposures, and ability to recommend methods to prevent such exposures. Knowledge of basic physics including concepts of energy, electric power, magnetic fields, and properties of x-ray, to understand the operation of the equipment. Knowledge and skill in positioning of patients for a wide variety of highly complex imaging (CT, MRI, IR, ultrasound, mammography) studies.] Preferred Experience: 1 year experience as a Clinical Instructor for an advanced modality in Radiology. References: VA Handbook 5005/119, Part II, Appendix G25 Physical Requirements: This employee functions in direct patient care. Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) work requires long periods of standing and/or walking up to 8 hours. There is repeated bending, pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulders, use of both hands (hands and fingers), twisting and carrying of moderately heavy articles weighing from 15-44 pounds such as multiple cassettes, grids, as well as wearing lead aprons. Movement and manipulation of moderately heavy equipment, which is generally power assisted, such as portable machines, hospital beds, gurneys, wheelchairs, and patent lift equipment,. Positioning of patients who are disabled may require considerable effort and working in awkward positions. Heavy lifting of incapacitated patients to be done with assistance from other employees and various Safe Patient Handling & Mobility devices (i.e. EZ-MAT, overhead lifts, inflatable devices, slider boards, etc.) provided by the Radiology Section. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 - 4 and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and to 20/100 in the other is acceptable. Hearing aids are permitted.
