This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

The Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program operates within primary care teams, offering brief, consultation-based services to Veterans, primary care providers, and allied team members. They focus on resolving a wide range of concerns within the primary care context, delivering short behavioral health visits (20-30 minutes) limited to 1-6 sessions. These services are provided within the primary care practice area to create a seamless experience for Veterans. PCMHI aims to aid PACT members in identifying, treating, and managing mental health and behavioral conditions among enrolled individuals. The PCMHI medical provider's role is to independently offer clinical services to Veterans referred by their Primary Care Provider or Patient Aligned Care Team for mental health assessments.
Other Duties Include:
Provide care to adults in the assigned area (PCMHI) by assessing, diagnosing, and treating health care problems, which may involve prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
Offer services to patients and their families or significant others by developing behavioral health interventions, initiating care plans, establishing goals, and facilitating referrals to Primary Care or Behavioral Health services.
Ensure appropriate documentation of patient History and Physical, and facilitate necessary referrals for PCMHI.
Record accurate progress notes in the CPRS system.
Perform patient medical reconciliation in accordance with the Robert J. Dole VA Healthcare system policy.
Create suitable provider orders and ensure follow-up for their implementation.
Recognize and evaluate patient symptoms effectively.
Safely manage problems within the scope of practice, acting independently or collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
Demonstrate proficiency in communication, both one-on-one and in group settings, fostering positive interpersonal relationships.
Display a willingness to employ behavioral interventions as part of patient care.
Possess the ability to prescribe Medication Assisted Treatment for Substance Use Disorders or be open to acquiring the necessary training for prescribing if required.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Physician Assistant Basic Requirements
Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~
Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience: The incumbent should have experience with conducting assessments to diagnose and treat Veterans with a mental health condition. The incumbent should be able to provide consultation to primary care providers and staff members on the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT).

Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary but may require some light lifting/carrying up to 15 pounds; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; walking/standing (up to 2 hours); far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Hearing (aid permitted). Mental/cognitive and emotional stability.
