The primary purpose of this position is to perfonn work involved in the identification, examination, classification, acceptance, and disposition of a wide variety of materials, complete equipment items, technical components, parts, and commodities (i.e., aircraft parts, combat items, general purpose items, classified or high-value equipment, precious metals

Duties

- Receives, examines, verifies, and identifies a wide variety of materials, complete equipment items, technical components, parts, and commodities. - Inspects stored/on-hand property for proper identification and usability conditions. Receives, examines, and determines condition of items, components, and equipment to be turned in/removed. - Performs a broad range of materials handling assignments/activities, such as receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment. - Operates electric, LPG, or diesel powered fork lift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing up to 10,000 pounds and as high as 168 inches. - Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, rotating shifts, call back, and/or holidays; overtime may be required.
  • May be required to carry a beeper/cell phone.
  • May be required to participate in contingency situations, both real world and exercise.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for this position. Vehicles may include driving a forklift and up to a two-ton truck.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. Cat 1 Type 2.
  • May be required to complete Nuclear War Reserve Material (NWRM) Fundamental training course annually or as required per AFI 20-110, Chapter 9.
  • This is a KEY Position. Incumbents must be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available.
  • Employee must be able to satisfactorily complete all required courses for the handling of hazardous material (i.e., DOT Hazardous Materials Regulation training) every 3 years or, as required, and Hazardous Waste Training annually.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing and Stock Handling Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER (FORKLIFT OPERATOR) without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: I. Knowledge of a limited range of pans and equipment, such as machine tools, office machines, electrical and electronic components, or medical supplies. 2. Knowledge of magnetic, spark, and chemical tests to test metal components of unusable equipment for salvage purposes. 3. Knowledge of electronic and mechanical devices to separate equipment components prior to testing. 4. Knowledge of safety and security practices and procedures. 5. Knowledge of supply documentation, code numbers and coding practices, printouts, material conditions, and stock numbering systems. 6. Knowledge of accepted warehousing functions, material handling techniques, and inventory procedures {e.g., material receiving, storage, issuing, and preservation) and preparation of inventory and production reports. Physical Effort: The work requires moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand truck; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; and bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy material along conveyor lines. The materials handling work may require working on hard surfaces and lifting and carrying weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weightlifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. Moderate physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift trucks. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment and outside in containment areas on a year-round basis. Subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling materials and equipment and to hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as fork lifts, trucks, cranes, and conveyor lines. For materials handling duties, employee may be subject to hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted areas or exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas. May be required to wear protective clothing such as hard hats, steel-toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. When handling hazardous materials, protective equipment is provided. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
