This position is located on the Northern Region, Region 1, Recreation, Minerals, Lands, Heritage and Wilderness with a duty location of Missoula, MT and Bismarck, ND.
The incumbent is responsible for supporting managers and resource specialists in the use of geospatial technology.

Duties
Support managers and resource specialists in the use of geospatial technology and geographic information
systems for land, natural resources and ecosystem management.
Coordinate input from managers and resource specialists to determine type, amount and level of information
required to develop and analyze ecosystem management alternatives.
Provide expertise and make recommendations on the development and application of geospatial analysis
processes, protocols and solutions to mission critical resource management issues.
Manipulate and analyze geospatial data to support resource management decisions and planning, analysis,
and monitoring activities.
Compile natural resource, topographic, and cartographic data for creation of thematic map products and
presentation materials.
Operate complex computer systems and software packages and develop procedures to produce intricately
detailed maps and graphics for service programs.
Conduct training and provide technical assistance to geographic information system software users in the
development, storage, retrieval and analysis of data.
Coordinate conversion of geospatial information and remote sensing imagery into geographic information
system databases.
Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing ALL of the following duties:
Developed data dictionaries, data models, and metadata for multi-disciplinary information and geospatial applications;
Manipulated and analyzed geospatial data to support resource management decisions for multiple resource, jurisdictional, and ownership units or a large geographical region; and
Compiled natural resource, topographic, and cartographic data for creation of thematic map products and presentation materials for multi-disciplinary resource management planning, preparation of environmental and social assessments, environmental impact statements and other projects supporting natural resource management decision making.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
