This position has been designated as an Essential Position (e.g., snow emergency days, holidays, increased security periods, national emergency). The position cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the mission. Assignments may be performed at any job site within the organization.
Duties
Initial point of contact for all persons, activities, visitors and complainants regarding any activity that requires police action.
Receives, interprets, evaluates, and immediately decides as to what action is appropriate and implements course of action; including dispatching support personnel.
Contacts tenants through a Mass Notification System (MNS) and sends alerts in an emergency situation.
Instruct caller on how to perform life-saving procedures in an emergency situation over the phone.
Maintains records; prepares journals, blotters, reports; reviews police reports for clarity, legibility and accuracy.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Police Officer (Desk Sergeant) your resume and supporting documentation must support:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-08 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Coordinating emergency responses between security, fire and other emergency units.
Performing a broad range of law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, traffic control and community policing.
Receiving, disseminating, and safeguarding law enforcement sensitive information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. The employee engages in such exertion when apprehending, subduing, and detaining hostile persons, performing body searches, and using unarmed self-defense techniques. Must be able to assist in lifting and carrying persons such as accident or crime victims.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking,driving, bending stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. The employee engages in such exertion when apprehending, subduing, and detaining hostile persons, performing body searches, and using unarmed self-defense techniques. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
