Duties

You will repair, maintain, and test interior electric wiring and wiring systems. You will repair, maintain, install, and test interior electronic lighting systems of all kinds such as incandescent, fluorescent and highly intensity discharge (HID) lighting systems and associated components parts, in safe and serviceable condition. You will remove and replace burned-out incandescent, fluorescent, and HID bulbs, tubs and lamps. You will maintain and repair battery operate emergency floodlights located in MCAGCC buildings ensuring they are operational condition and ready to automatically switch on immediately following a power outage. You will maintain and repair all exterior lighting that consist of, but is not limited to: standing lights, streetlights, street signals, compound security lighting, Base perimeter lighting, parking lights, and any other exterior lighting.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain the applicable license(s) or authorization(s) to operate assigned equipment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain National Institute of Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Fire Alarm Level 1 Certification within one year from date of hire.
  • Must complete Electrical Explosives Safety for Naval Facilities Training within one year from date of hire. This training will be provided by PWD.
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: have the ability to perform common tasks to include: making electrical repairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, or insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and/or fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, damaged light fixtures, and poorly operating thermostats.
