Duties

Provides Fire Protection Engineering and Fire Prevention review and coordination. Determines need for fire suppression, detection systems, mass notification and fire alarm transmitting systems for existing and new facilities. Provides expert fire protection and fire prevention consultation, advice and guidance to Directorate of Public Works and all tenant units and organizations which includes several high and extreme hazard facilities.

Requirements

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires 40 hours of work per week.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08) In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Inspector I, Fire Inspector II, Fire Service Instructor I, and Hazardous Materials-Awareness Certification certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Fire Prevention, Inspection, and Code ComplianceFire/Life Safety Training, Public Education, and OutreachInspection, Testing, and Maintenance Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
