As a Veterans Service Representative (VSR) you will work on veterans' benefits claims and provide comprehensive services to America's Veterans and their families. The Veterans Service Representative (VSR) explains benefit programs and entitlement criteria, conducts interviews, identifies issues, gathers relevant evidence, adjudicates claims, and inputs data necessary to generate the award and notification letter to the veteran describing the decision and the reason for it.

Duties

Process unusually complex claims. Provides second signature on highly complex authorization issues or higher-level administrative decisions. Develops methods for mentoring members of the team on technical aspects of the job. Provides training consistent with training needs. Works with lower-graded employees to ensure their tasks are completed within the deadline established by the Team’s supervisor. Functions as an authoritative consultant on the technical aspects of claims processing. Analyzes, develops and requests evidence for claims. Verbally communicates with veterans, employees and supervisors as necessary. Communicates, in writing, decisions on claim and information for lower-graded employees when advising them on completing a claim.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this position. To qualify, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves (1) Developing claims for veteran benefits to include analyzing and requesting evidence; (2) Providing technical guidance and consult with regards to processing claims (3) Constructing written correspondence to veterans and employees regarding claims decisions (4) Reviewing work of other employees for timeliness, accuracy, and overall quality.

Education

There is no education substitution for the GS-12 level.
