This position is located in the Mental Health Service at the Iowa City Health Care System - Iowa City VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA. The Psychology Technician is responsible for administering and scoring various panels of psychological, neuropsychological, psychophysiological, and behavioral tests ranging over several hundred different measures and possible combinations.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Performing psychological, neuropsychological, and psychophysiological tests on inpatients and outpatients referred for examination
Administering, scoring, and interpreting results of various psychological tests
Understanding a variety of testing procedures and works independently in the administration, scoring and recording with minimal supervision and high degree of accuracy and consistency
Establishing a comfortable relationship with examinees to reduce discomfort and anxiety and to promote optimal performance during the assessment
Developing and implementing practical strategies for the completion of testing measures
Conducting data evaluation and analytic tasks utilizing a computer and appropriate software applications
Scoring tests using standardized instructions by reading and interpreting diagnostic manuals, utilizing computer scoring programs, understanding and calculating math formulas and equations, and being familiar with psychometric/statistical terminology
Documenting observations of patients' behavior, appearance, and attitude during testing for the referring psychologist and communicates findings orally with multidisciplinary clinicians
Inputting patient data/demographic information and test data into electronic files
Storing and retrieving information and requests patient data
Documenting actions taken or outcomes accomplished in the patient's medical record in a timely manner and according with VA Medical Center and Mental Health Service Line policies
Maintaining current and completing stocks of assessment materials, monitoring security of test storage, and recommending new equipment purchases and maintenance based upon value and reliability in operation
Assisting patients with retrieval of information and release of information when appropriate and necessary
Maintaining instructional materials and teaches students and others precise methods to obtain accurate data
Monitoring suitability of patients and makes recommendations for projects/studies
Ensuring all clinical test data is electronically entered into a quality improvement (QI) database that facilitates the production of standardized summary sheets used by all neuropsychologists
Assisting staff in obtaining data/information from the QI database
Participating in the design, planning and coordination of psychological assessment activities
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 08:00 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. (Ad Hoc Telework available)

Qualifications
Basic Requirement: The following are basic requirements for appointment as a Psychology Technician in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which all applicants must met.
Basic Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an appropriate social or biological science, which included or was supplemented by 12 semester hours in psychology. Minimum Requirement: In addition to meeting the basic requirements one of the following minimum requirement criteria must be met to be qualified for this position.
Specialized Experience (GS-09): You must have two (2) year of technical work under the direction of a professional psychologist in a program of professional services, training or research. NOTE: Candidates for grades GS-9 must have had at least 6 months of experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade (i.e., GS-08) in the Federal service, or 1 year comparable to the second lower grade (i.e., GS-07) in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying technical work includes but not limited to: applying basic knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology of general psychology; administrating and scoring standardized procedures for psychological, psychophysiological, and neuropsychological assessments/tests; and coordinating space and equipment requests for various psychological, psychophysiological, and neuropsychological assessments/tests. OR,
Education (GS-09): Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two (2) years of graduate study in psychology in an accredited college or university. NOTE: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although the stress involved in continually working with persons in emotional and physical distress and who may be uncooperative, poorly motivated, obstreperous, or possibly assaultive, makes this position appreciably more demanding than most sedentary lines of employment. Manual dexterity, proficient handwriting speed, physical agility, some degree of physical exe1iion (i.e., moderate lifting of test supplies, records and equipment), walking/mobility, listening, writing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time are required.
