This position is located within the Nursing Service of the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System (OKCVAHCS) and reports directly to the Nurse Manager, Telemetry/Telesitter Program. The primary purpose of the position is to provide support to staff by monitoring cardiac rhythms of telemetry patients and remote continuous patient observation and telesitter monitoring system, at the central station according to telemetry protocols and telesitter protocols.
Duties
Major duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Admits and discharges patients to/from the telemetry monitoring system per physician orders.
Views patient cardiac rhythms at the central monitoring station and responds to alarms based on telemetry protocols.
Demonstrates technical analysis of fundamental cardiac rhythms and detections of lethal arrhythmias, acute rhythm abnormalities, telemetry settings and alarm levels, and the effects/potential effects on patients and treatments.
Uses the Electronic Medical record and other approved software as needed to perform duties and chart effectively.
Communication skills to provide for effective, concise, and courteous communication with Veterans, nursing staff and medical staff in relation to Telemetry monitoring and Telesitter observations.
Recognizes abnormal rhythms and contacts appropriate health care personnel.
Identifies emergency situations and calls a code blue when appropriate.
Checks CPRS once a shift to make sure the remote patients have current telemetry orders. If orders are not current, then the telemetry tech notifies the patients nurse.
Off-going tech transports telemetry strips to other units after shift report.
Work Schedule: Various based on needs of the unit.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/27/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-06 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Individual Occupational Requirement: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

Physical Requirements: The work may require regular physical exertion; such as walking, frequent bending, reaching and stretching to set or remove equipment; lifting and carrying of weight up to 20 pounds, and pushing or pulling of moderately heavy objects. Some typing is required, and some duties may require above average dexterity.
