DCSA's Office of Communications and Congressional Affairs (OCCA) is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist to assist in the planning, development, and editing of informational material for DCSA newsletters, internal & external media sites, to include social media, and DCSA's GATEKEEPER Magazine. This is an excellent opportunity for those with experience researching, analyzing, writing, and editing diverse informational materials and developing media campaigns.
Duties
As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST you will be responsible for the following duties:* Serves as a Public Affairs representative for DCSA.
* Plans, develops and edits informational materials for DCSA newsletters, ACCESS magazine, internal and external media sites to include social media venues. Researches, analyzes, writes and edits diverse informational materials for print and online media pertaining to DCSA support activities.
* Drafts public affairs guidance, talking points, response to query and other products to respond to/plan for media engagements.
* Manages multiple competing tasks with short deadlines. Provides multimedia products in final stage for distribution
* Assists in developing articles, feature stories, radio and television scripts, announcements, pamphlets and brochures, fact sheets, photographic releases and other material for presentation to the target audiences.
* Develops communication strategies and campaigns that will effectively transmit the information necessary for the public's understanding of issues and establishes ways of obtaining feedback on effectiveness of program efforts.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.
You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade GS/GG-11 in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility.
Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes: Planning, researching, developing, analyzing, writing, and editing diverse informational materials for newsletters, magazines, internal and external media sites to include social media venues; Drafting public affairs guidance, talking points, responses to queries and other products; Managing multiple competing tasks with short deadlines; Assisting in developing articles, feature stories, radio and television scripts, announcements, pamphlets and brochures, fact sheets, photographic releases and other material for presentation; Developing communication strategies and campaigns that will effectively transmit the information necessary; and practical experience in Web site reviews, interviewing techniques, AP writing style, journalism applications, publishing software (InDesign) and the development of communications and strategic plans.
