This position is located in Yellowstone National Park, in the Center for Resources Division.
This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Duties
The major duties of the Biologist position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Oversee revegetation for park construction projects and ecological restoration including regular coordination with project managers, planning, implementation, and monitoring.
Lead native plant materials program including seed collection and storage, plant salvage, grow-out, seed germination testing, and evaluation of efficacy and cost-effectiveness.
Provide recommendations to avoid, minimize or mitigate resource impacts for park projects on interdisciplinary teams.
Plan and execute science-based habitat restoration including researching and selecting restoration techniques, developing seeding plans, integrating weed management, ensuring compliance, and collaborating with a variety of internal and external partners.
Plan and implement ecological monitoring; identify research needs and collaborate with external researchers.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/02/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Basic Requirement for the GS-0401 series:
A - Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position or
B - Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the basic requirement, you must possess the following specialized experience by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Recommended and/or participated in the development and implementation of plans to address resource concerns related to vegetation or ecological restoration (i.e. native plant revegetation, erosion control, ecological restoration, soil assessments, scientific monitoring); identified resource management concerns that can be corrected or mitigated by immediate attention related to vegetation communities; observed, measured, and reported on the impact and effectiveness of management actions that affect vegetation communities. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a related field. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, six (6) months of specialized experience (50%), plus 27 semester hours of directly related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) equals 100% of this requirement. NOTE: Only related education in excess of 18 graduate hours is creditable towards meeting this qualification. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, weeks, days, and hours worked.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
