The Engineering Department of Western New York Healthcare System (WNYHS) is tasked with the operation and maintenance/repair of a major medical facility. The incumbent is assigned to the (VAWNYHS) Buffalo location as a Carpenter.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities will include: Independently plans and completes projects which involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses, and beams. Spacing, accuracy and fit are essential and structural soundness or appearances are important. The Carpenter builds walls, partitions and dust barriers from metal studs, wood, drywail, plastic, etc. The incumbent repairs and installs cabinets, bookcases, picture frames, doors/frames, suspended ceilings, vinyl floor tile, louvers, scaffolds, bulletin boards, railings, etc. Repairs windows, screens, carts, and chairs. The Carpenter also installs miscellaneous operating fixtures such as soap and towel dispensers and window coverings such as shades, curtain rods, blinds, etc. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies routine millwork, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc. Performing related duties as required. Physical Requirements: Work requires considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping. Strenuous physical exertion may be required when handling heavy, bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, Corian, drywall and other miscellaneous construction materials. Use of manual or portable power tools for extended periods of time in uncomfortable positions. Work typically requires bending, stooping, crawling, climbing on ladders, scaffolding and rooftops. Stands for extended periods of time operating machines. Lifts and moves materials weighing up to 40Ibs. Lifts and moves materials exceeding 40Ibs. with the assistance of a co-worker.
