The Engineering Department of Western New York Healthcare System (WNYHS) is tasked with the operation and maintenance/repair of a major medical facility. The incumbent is assigned to the (VAWNYHS) Buffalo location as a Carpenter/Locksmith. The incumbent can plan, schedule, and perform the work of a Journeyman Level Carpenter/Locksmith.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities will include: Independently plans and completes projects which involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, doors, finished paneling, windows, interior/exterior trim, etc.; Builds walls, partitions and dust barriers from metal studs, wood, drywall, plastic, etc.; Repairs and installs doors/frames, suspended ceilings, vinyl floor tile, windows, louvers, handrails, etc.; Repairs and installs miscellaneous operating fixtures such as soap and paper towel dispensers, window shades, blinds, privacy curtain tracks and components, etc.; Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies routine mill-work, counter-tops, framing, partitions, furniture, etc.; Sets up and operates hand and power tools, saws, hammers, drills, routers, power saws, sanders, lasers, etc.; Uses various fasteners such as nails, screws, bonding materials, specialized fasteners, while preventing splitting, chipping, and splintering of materials; Plans, measures, and lays out carpentry materials using advanced shop mathematics for complex and exact projects, and interpreting complex or incomplete instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes; Installs, repairs, modifies and troubleshoots door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures.; Performs fire and smoke barrier PM inspections and makes repairs as needed in accordance with NFPA standards.; Installs, services, modifies, troubleshoots and repairs various types of locking mechanisms and security devices in wooden and metal doors; Locksmith interprets master keying guidelines to maintain the integrity of the facility master key system and maintains strict policy regarding approval and issuance of keys; Selects proper materials, components, and locking mechanisms to meet physical security requirements.; Maintains and updates lock program software to reflect status of locks and keys; Performing related duties as required. Physical Requirements: Work requires considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping. Strenuous physical exertion may be required when handling heavy, bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, Corian, drywall and other miscellaneous construction materials. Use of manual or portable power tools for extended periods of time in uncomfortable positions. Work typically requires bending, stooping, crawling, climbing on ladders, scaffolding and rooftops. Stands for extended periods of time operating machines. Lifts and moves materials weighing up to 40Ibs. Lifts and moves materials exceeding 40Ibs. with the assistance of a co-worker.
