This position is located in Refugee, Asylum and International Operations, Asylum Division, Arlington Asylum Office in Arlington, VA.
As a Staff Assistant, you will you will act as the focal point between office employees and leadership. You will manage schedules, calendars, and internal and external office communications.
Duties
The responsibilities described are for the full performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope performed with less independence, and limited complexity.
Employee supports ZAR leadership by managing correspondence/calendars, flagging priority tasks and deadlines, processing documents, performing analysis on files, reports, and information systems or databases as directed.
Supports development and evaluation of office responsibilities, takes or recommends actions to achieve organizational objectives, and recommends future program objectives and improvements.
Provides administrative assistance and support to ZAR operations and/or Asylum HQ in a variety of matters relating to the application of planning systems and ZAR operations to meet mission requirements.
Assists management through developing briefings, presentations and conference materials for local supervisors and executive management; works to ensure information provided is accurate/concise.
Qualifications
The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 12/27/2023.
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 12/27/2023.
GS-05: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Assisting in conducting statistical research to evaluate management processes and functions.
Compiling documents and using databases to support the development program objectives and improvements.
Carrying out specified portions or segments of specific projects and/or studies.
Compiling information for incorporation into final reports and/or briefings. OR
You may substitute successful completion of a Bachelor's degree or a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a Bachelor's degree for the experience required at the GS-05 grade level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours.
GS-07: You qualify at the GS-07 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Performing statistical research to assist in the evaluation of management processes and functions.
Examining documents and databases to support the development program objectives and improvements.
Managing travel reservations and office calendar reservations for the executive staff. OR
You may substitute superior academic achievement for the experience required at the GS-07 level. You must have
completed the requirements for a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society. OR You may substitute successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education for the experience required at the GS-07 level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university and demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work of the position. A course of study in business administration, public administration, or related fields is qualifying. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours.
GS-09: You qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Performing analysis to resolve problems or improve effectiveness of operational or administrative programs.
Representing the organization by providing information to internal and external stakeholders.
Researching documents; compiling and charting statistical data; gathering, summarizing, and analyzing information. OR
You may substitute a Master's or equivalent degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a J.D. or L.L.B degree for experience required at the GS-9 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours.
