Duties
Ensures that coding is performed in a manner which allows input of data into the computer system.
Codes disease and injury diagnoses, acuity of care, and procedures in a wide range of ambulatory settings and specialties.
Performs qualitative analysis to ensure accuracy, internal consistency and correlation of recorded data
Contacts appropriate medical staff members to rectify inconsistencies, deficiencies and discrepancies in medical documentation.
Provides assistance to medical staff by researching reference materials for requested information
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires screening of applicable immunizations.
- This Position requires seasonal influenza vaccination.
- This position has a coding certification requirement from the America Health Information Management Association.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coding disease and injury diagnosis; providing assistance to professional staff; OR gathering data to produce reports; and/or performing analysis of records to ensure recorded data is accurate. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
This position recommends that you be a Registered Record Administrator (RRA) or certified by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Technician (RHIT), or be a certified coding specialist CCS, or CCS-P, or credentialed by American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) CPC Certified Professional Coder, CPC-H or CPC-P.
