About the Position: This position is a Medical Records Technician at Guthrie Army Health Clinic, Fort Drum, New York.
Duties
Acquire custody of service treatment and outpatient medical records according to regulatory guidelines and local polices.
Prepare new patient medical record files.
Utilize electronic medical record system for patient registration.
Process requests for copies of medical records from patients, other medical treatment facilities, and third-party requestors.
Greet customers/visitors in person and over the phone in a courteous manner.
Scan appropriate documents into the patient’s electronic medical record in support of the Joint Commission regulations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is, therefore, subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- TDY (Temporary Duty) is required at least 5% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes knowledge of standardized medical record procedures, methods, and requirements; experience with administrative duties to include customer service, answering phone calls and emails; experience with data collection and review. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
