This is a TERM position NTE 30-SEP-2024. It is a time limited position and may be extended to a maximum of eight (8) years depending upon the needs of management. Contingent to specific conditions, individual(s) selected for this Term position may be eligible for conversion to a career-conditional or career appointment at a later date.
Duties
Maintain reports and retrieve needed statistical information using the Emergency Response System.
Utilize computer to monitor Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System.
Operate the Computer Aided Dispatching system for emergency 911 calls.
Performs crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene.
Transfer caller to proper agency as determined by nature of call.
Must be a qualified typist.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position is subject to shift work. The incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays). May have to work planned or unplanned overtime.
- This is a Mission Essential position. Incumbent is required to work regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
- The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a DoD Telecommunicator I and II (or equivalent) within 6 months of employment.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Virginia Criminal Information (VCIN) Full access certification within 6 months of employment.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a CPR Certification within 6 months of employment.
- The incumbent must meet established hearing and vision tests. He/she must be able to distinguish colors.
- Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing incoming and outgoing multi-phone line operations; Assessing incoming emergency calls to determine the proper course of action; and dispatching in a high volume/urgent environment; Provide clear and precise instructions to callers in high stress conditions; Dispatch emergency personnel (police, fire, medical, hazmat, rescue, etc.); utilizing dispatching and/or law enforcement communication systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
