Duties

You will perform station wide maintenance, modifications, rebuild and repair to fire suppression systems including, but not limited to, pre-action, wet, and deluge. You will assemble, trouble shoot, and modify numerous types of electronics security devices. You will perform inspections, removal, installation, disassembly, assembly and repairs as well as testing operation and performance of various types of fire alarm systems such as heat sensor, smoke detectors, manual pull stations, etc. You will perform pipe fitting, plumbing and electrical duties as they apply to the maintenance, repair and installation of fire systems and associated components/devices. You will utilize appropriate directives, manuals, technical publications, sketches, blue prints and any other documentation and/or verbal instruction pertinent in the accomplishment of the task.

  • Must be able to successfully complete the following training within prescribed timeframe: NICET CPD Points as required to maintain certification.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ABILITY TO PERFORM THE WORK OF A FIRE EXTINGUISING SYSTEMS MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION AS DEMONSTRATED by: 1) Installs and assists in the repair of fire suppression systems in compliance with fire codes and manufacturer requirements; 2) Identifies pipefitting, plumbing and/or electrical issues during the repair, installation and maintenance of fire systems and associated components/devices; and 3) Installs, repairs and assures proper operation of various types of pressure switches activated by water or foam.
