In this position you will apply technical work and professional engineering to modeling and simulation systems that support developmental and operational test and evaluation (DT & E and OT & E) test programs.

For additional information on direct hire opportunities with the Air Force please click here. Serves as 412 EWG project engineer for development of aircraft flight simulators. Conducts and reports on simulator tests in the area of dynamic and static stability, performance, and flight control systems. Prepares technical documentation of simulator development and operation which describe, in detail, mechanization techniques, new or unique software algorithms, operations procedures, configuration control; presents test results; draws conclusions and makes recommendations. The incumbent performs technical and engineering work using classified information in various media and formats. The incumbent develops, prioritizes and reports on organization performance goals and objectives.

  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 30 days per year. Up to 25% Travel possible

  • The employee must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) certification requirements applicable to the career category designated on the position description within 24 months of assignment.
  • This position also requires the employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 Continuous Learning points every 24 months.
  • This position may require some flying in government and military aircraft. Although performed in office environment, may require frequent CONUS and/or foreign travel away from the AFTC for periods of up to three weeks or more.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, click here. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is described as (a) professional competence in applying the theoretical foundations of computer science, including computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations; (b) computer networks, system integration laboratories (SIL), and/or hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) facilities integrating digital and analog processors, cockpit displays and controls, mechanical and electrical interfaces, and operational flight program software. The software includes algorithms for navigation, ordnance targeting/delivery, flight controls, energy & propulsion management, communications, sensor imaging, and target locations and identification.(c) modeling and simulation expertise applied to the development, upgrade, operation, and integration of constructive, non-real-time and virtual, piloted real-time simulators applied to the Flying Quality, Airframe, Propulsion, Avionic, Sensor, Weapon and Electronic Warfare (EW) mission areas. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Ability to program (various languages and protocols), integrate/manipulate models and generate computer networks for virtual, live, and constructive simulation of combat aircraft avionics, armament, or electronic warfare systems. 2. Knowledge of concepts, principles, and techniques across multiple interrelated and integrated technical and test engineering disciplines (combat aircraft avionics, armament, or electronic warfare systems or related systems/subsystems). 3. Knowledge of flight and laboratory air vehicle/missile test conduct, coordination and supervision, data analysis/evaluation and applicable flight test truth sources, joint simulation environment and techniques, technical report preparation, and administrative aspects of flight test programs. 4. Ability to plan and organize work, coordinate between various electronic/aerospace/mechanical engineering and test disciplines, and coordinate with other Air Force, DOD, and other domestic and foreign government agencies. 5. Ability to research, analyze, interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions. 6. Ability to maintain good working relations and to provide technical leadership and project management oversight as well as communicate effectively with a broad range of personnel both orally and in writing and to use modern computer software applications in support of communications and presentations.

Education

To qualify for this position, you must also meet the basic requirements listed below:

Basic Requirements:

The primary requirements of the work are (a) professional competence in applying the theoretical foundations of computer science, including computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations; (b) specialized knowledge of the design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of systems having the ability to transform information, and of broad areas of applications of computing which have common structures, processes, and techniques; and (c) knowledge of relevant mathematical and statistical sciences.

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Evaluation of Education:
Applicant must provide Official Transcripts.

Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
