The Education Branch provides educators and students with tools, experiences, and opportunities to further their participation in unique USPTO learning experiences that enhance their knowledge of IP in the context of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and the arts (STEM/STEAM) initiatives.
Duties
The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia.
IN OFFICE REQUIREMENT: This position requires in office attendance, up to four days a week (flexibility may be offered)
TELEWORK: This position is eligible for one (1) Telework day each week per agency and business unit discretion/policy (flexibility may be offered)

This position is located in the Office of the Chief Communications Officer (OCCO) - Education Branch, United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

You're knowledgeable to exercise responsibility for administering the contractual vehicle used to hire students to participate in the IP-Skills WBL Program.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification/specialized experience requirements listed below:
Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-12.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience working in youth development with high school students from a variety of communities, backgrounds, interests, abilities, and income levels.
Experience conducting, organizing, and implementing a work-based learning program or mentoring program for high school students.
Experience developing resources for learners who want to explore making, invention, design thinking, entrepreneurship and/or innovation in the context of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematic), Career Tech Education, or Computer Science.
Candidates with Awareness, familiarity/understanding of intellectual property concepts e.g., patents, trademarks, copyright, and trade secrets or entrepreneurship, are preferred, but not required".

Education
Basic Requirement:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position
OR
A combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study.
