The incumbent serves as the Pharmacy Technician in the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP). Incumbent participates in the technical product dispensing and pharmacy operational support functions under the general supervision.
Duties
The incumbent may work in any of the following areas: Automated dispensing, labeling, manifesting, packing and receiving. With additional advanced training, may be authorized to work in manual fill.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, in order to be eligible for the Pharmacy Technician GS - 05 you must meet one of the additional requirements:
Successful completion of four years post-secondary education with courses related to pharmacy (e.g., 48 semester hours of science, mathematics, pharmacy or a bachelor's degree.
OR
An associate's degree in pharmacy technician or technology (48 semester hours of concentrated pharmacy technician training).
OR
One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level as a Pharmacy Technician performing duties such as dispensing prescriptions at the pharmacy window and prepacking medications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the education or experience above, your resume must reflect the following KSAs:
Knowledge of basic pharmacy operations.
Knowledge of pharmaceuticals to perform duties in pharmacy functional areas.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature (including generic, chemical and proprietary names of drug).
Ability to fill prescriptions.
Ability to use pharmacy information systems or basic pharmacy dispensing equipment with oversight.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-05.
Physical Requirements: The work is primarily performed while sitting, though some work may require periods of standing. The regular and recurring work of this position involves sitting at a desk, conferences, meetings, etc. Frequent use of automobile and public conveyances may be required. Occasional lifting of boxes is also required.
