About the Position: This position is in the Naval Medical Center Office of Market Operations, Clinical Optimization, San Diego, California. San Diego is a city on the Pacific coast of California known for its beaches, parks and warm climate. Immense Balboa Park is the site of the San Diego Zoo, as well as numerous art galleries, art studios museums and gardens. A deep harbor is the Home to a large active naval fleet, with the USS Midway an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum, open to the public.

Duties

Identify coding problems by reviewing outpatient audit results. Contribute to the fulfillment of the Military Health System (MHS) and its vision of “Coding Supervisor. Provide technical guidance and training for physicians and other healthcare professionals of the large market MTFs. Provide coding strategies to correct recurrent external audit findings. Gather and compile various data and produces reports as needed. Code complicated medical records having diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic procedures that are identified as difficult to classify.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
