Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include but may not be limited to: Performs clinical assessments and provides various forms of non-invasive treatments (direct patient care for nail fungi, nail trimming, toenail debridement, callus and corn removal, slant backs for ingrown toenails, application of topical medications, foot soaks, and basic podiatry care). Identifies significant clinical changes in patients and promptly reports findings to the assigned physician. Sets up for procedures and/or aids during procedures. Provides patient education on home care and prevention of podiatric illnesses and infections. Justifies and coordinates requests for replacement of outdated specialty podiatry equipment. Codes accurately, makes appointments, schedules tests, processes data requests, orders charts and x-rays, and follows up on in-progress work in a timely manner. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To apply for this position, you must have the following qualifications: English Language Proficiency - In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. -AND- SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service performing duties in a podiatry setting performing technical support duties such as: setting up for procedures, aiding during procedures, passing medical instruments, needles, medicines, and ointments; performing direct patient care duties with the use of medical instrumentation such as scalpels, nail cutters, curettes, tissue nippers and other required instrumentation, performing triage and vital sign measurement and documentations upon intake; and providing patient education as needed. ~OR~ SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: You must have successfully completed one-half year (9 semester hours) of graduate level education that is directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) ~OR~ COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-6 level. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Clinical Data Collection/DocumentationCustomer ServicePatient CareTechnical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Work requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, bending, stretching, pushing, turning, and at times carrying heavy loads. Incumbents must utilize good body mechanics. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. Work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients.
